The Mountains Are Calling…

The Mountains Are Calling…

And we must move there! Between the fresh air, breathtaking views, and promise of outdoor adventure, it seems the mountain towns of Colorado are some of the most desirable places to live in the country. Mountain real estate is booming in popular resort towns such as Aspen, Vail, Beaver Creek, Crested Butte, and Telluride.

After a year of quarantine, working and learning remotely, our priorities are shifting. In the face of COVID, a city lifestyle poses the largest threat to our health and wellbeing. We are trading in smaller homes close to neighbors for bigger ones with backyards. Naturally, this has sent many Denverites west into the mountains. It has also brought coastal dwellers from California and New York. In fact, according to a New York Times survey of moving companies, the amount of people moving out of the city between the months of March and August was up 50% year over year.

This influx has resulted in a spike in buying, selling, and leasing activity. Forbes called mountain homes “sanctuaries” for those discovering how important it is to have such a thing. While the majority of luxury homeowners in these towns have historically been second homeowners, many are deciding to make it their primary residence.

Of course, as distribution of the vaccine continues, this influx may begin to slow. Yet, all the perks of living in the mountains will remain: clean air, stimulating activity and exercise, beauty and adventure in every season, relatively mild weather, tons of sunshine, so much space, and incredible homes.

Here are a few lovely options we recommend to begin your home search.

Aspen

As one of the most iconic ski resorts in the world, visitors have flocked to this glamorous town for decades. However, many wealthy people, including a few celebrities, call it home. Designer shopping and fine dining make this one of the glitzier mountain communities in Colorado. And yet, the opulence begins with the landscape itself. Spring and summer bring spectacular wildflowers while fall and winter bring sparkling snow drifts.

Vail/Beaver Creek

Spread along a ten mile stretch of i70 about two hours west of Denver, are the various towns that make up the Vail Valley: East/West Vail, Eagle-Vail, Avon, and Edwards. Not only is Vail the largest ski resort in the state, but neighboring resorts of Beaver Creek, Bachelor Gulch and Arrowhead offer endless terrain for mountain fun all year long. Like many mountain towns, the community calendar throughout the valley is constantly filled with festivals, concerts, competitions, and events.

Telluride

The drive into town might actually take your breath away, and not just because you are at 8,750 feet. Nestled among several +13,000-foot towering peaks is this frontier town. But, it’s not just the views and the year-round adventure that make this town so special; it’s the people. The tight knit community is dedicated to enhancing and preserving Telluride’s rich history, unique architecture, undeniable charm, and stunning natural landscape.

Crested Butte

Recently acquired by Vail Resorts, this secluded mountain town is experiencing exciting growth. The resort itself has some of the most varied terrain in the state. And, after a hearty day on the slopes, there is a charming village to enjoy with shops and restaurants. In the summer months, residents mountain bike and frequent surrounding reservoirs.

Breckenridge

The epitome of laid-back. Life is a little slower and much less stressful in the mountains, but especially here. The main street of town offers urban luxuries and amenities but in a casual and quaint environment. Boutiques, coffee shops, restaurants, spas and markets dot the sidewalks. Not to mention, Denver is only a quick hour and half drive east.
